Abstract

Natural Economy Northwest has produced a series of research summaries to inform the single regional strategy evidence base. The full reports on which the research summaries are based are available to download below.

Green Infrastructure
A suite of reports on Green Infrastructure looking at a number of issues; GI development based on the need expressed within the Region, an assessment of the CItygreen computer model for estimating economic benefit, an outline strategy for linking green and grey infrastructure, and a collection of pioneering work on the economic benefits of GI - a summary publication and two underpinning research reports.

Natural Tourism
A suite of reports reviewing existing regional and sub-regional strategies to inform the positioning of natural tourism development and a scoping of the existing national, regional and sub-regional websites to inform the provision of visitor information on natural tourism. In addition the business case and strategic positioning for the North West Coastal Trail.

Wetlands
A Business Plan and Framework for Action by Rural Innovation to deliver both environmental and socio-economic outputs and outcomes. For Natural Economy Northwest they represent the development of a new approach to project development in which these wetlands projects are positioned within the socio-economic frameworks for N Cumbria and S Cumbria/E Morecambe Bay.

Public Benefit Recording System (PBRS)
This study by TEP utilises the Public Benefit Recording System (PBRS) - an aid to strategic planning and decision making, with an ethos that greatest public benefit is likely to be secured across overlapping social, economic and environmental need and opportunity - to produce a suite of maps showing that it is possible to assess the relationships between socio-economic deprivation and natural environmental value.

Biodiversity & Socio-Economics
A pilot for enhancing SITA Enriching Nature projects to deliver socio-economic outputs; a practical review of roof greening in central Manchester by the Greater Manchester Biodiversity Project and Groundwork Merseyside's Environmental Volunteering & Employment (EVE) Programme at Dutton Park.

Natural Benefits For Business
The Natural Benefits for Business Cumbria Pilot looked at ways in which biodiversity could be made relevant to commercial organisations. The case studies publication looks at seven businesses, highlighting the perceived business benefits relating to customers, staff, costs and security.
